Many forumites (on another which shall nameless) site wax lyrical about the benefits of putting on cbr600 coils onto the 1100/900. Better sparks etc etc, 7 billion gigavolts or something (that may be exaggerating). Anybody had good experiences with the 600 coil mod?

Oh, – and(forgot to mention) make sure the marks on the fork top caps line up with the dots on the top fork bridge. This ensures that the dials all end up aligned so 1-2-3 are in the same orientation. My RD manual doesn’t go into that, coz it’s actually an RC book. The after market 900 / 1100 manual has the procedure in it.

The ‘tops’, by that I’m assuming you mean the rebound adjustment dials, they come off pretty easily. Lever CAREFULLY underneath evenly and they’re off. Under that is the plate that connects through to the mechanism, that can all stay on. A normal socket can get the cap bolts off. (21 / 22/ 23 / 24 mm? can’t remember at the minute).
There is a small drain hidden down the bottom of the fork, it is the 10mm head cap bolt. Don’t take out the philips head screw, there is a spring and ball under for the damping adjuster.
You will need to flush new oil through a few times as the passages are a bit convoluted in the anti dive circuitry.

Thanks Trev, that’s perfect. My hose is not the correct one. It’s about 30mm too long mainly and the long banjo end is at the wrong angle……
I know what I need now. Ta.

Sorry to burst the bubble Trev, that’s 15 months (on and off) from the start of dismantling. I have to earn ‘shed points’ by doing other house related stuff to be allowed down to my little world.

Progress shot #2. Needs brake lines, bit of electrics and some checking, new footpeg rubbers to go on –and then start on the engine. Bolt by bolt.
p.s. Anyone got an answer to my question on the rings? (Back in the rings thread)

Sorry people, can someone confirm (or deny as they say) that the piston grooves require a minor machine to get the F rings on please?
I’ve got my pistons out, bores are standard and good nik. If it’s just a matter of getting F rings, a hone and away we go , I’ll be happy.
    Thanks

Terry, I had hoses made for my old CB750F2 at a reasonable size brake place here in Perth. They looked like OEM, but with stainless end joints. I’m going to do the same with the RD hoses soon. If you’re looking for SS braided, not sure. I haven’t explored those. They copied the originals obviously.

Thanks Trev. I don’t have a problem with it not being there, the thing will work ok obviously. I just don’t recall seeing one when it came apart, didn’t put 2+2 together when I worked on the RH switchblock and now just realised I have another piece missing on this jigsaw. Reckon I can make something up ok, if not, too bad. Thanks again.

Wim, Can you post any further pictures of the final version of the rubber and photos of one you’ve installed on the peg?
I can show the photos then to another couple of R owners to hopefully get you an order for 3 sets, not just the one.
    Thanks.

Well the process has begun. Wheels are ready as is the swing arm, forks, calipers and plastic bits. Need to finish off the polished ally bits for clear ceramic coating. Also need a couple of bits tidied up on the harness. But it’s all go. See how the picture upload goes!!

Looking pretty good Wim. Keen to hear updates so I can place my order. I’ve come across two more R owners recently, I will see if they need footpeg rubbers as well.

Great solution Trev, with just two problems.
    1) I didn’t read this until after Christmas and
    2) My shed is only a tiny bit bigger than the forklift!

Thanks chaps. I think I will assemble the crankcases, barrel and head, put it in the frame then put the rest on. I’m estimating without the clutch, alternator, starter motor and clutch etc, oil pump, sump, it has to be at least 15 kg lighter.
