Great edition Andy.
Feel really sorry for our Swiss friends who had their bikes stolen in Edinburgh. The photo of the burnt out remains of one of the recovered bikes is quite distressing. A terrible thing to have happened.
I agree its a great magazine ,especially as this edition is full of pictures of me !
I will be happy to autograph magazines on the stand this weekend.

Hello all,
I am a recent returnee to the club having last been a member in 1997. In ’99 my RC suffered a major engine failure on a trip back from the North West 200. I subsequently bought a fire blade and came off that and whilst
I was happy to see it taken away I just never wanted to do the same with the RC which I have owned since ’87.
Anyway despite all the usual distractions over the years I really want to get the RC rebuilt / restored and back on the road: it will need new crank cases see attached picture. I do not have the facilities, ability or time to undertake the work myself unfortunately so parts permitting it will require a professional job.I would be very grateful for any advice that club members might have in terms of recommendations and general experience. In general the cycle parts frame and body work are all good. A new tank, and fairing and stainless exhaust had been put on it before the engine failed so it was looking well and has been garaged ever since.
All advice welcome and it is great to see that the club is going strong.

Hi Michael, Sounds like you’ve been on quite a journey. It’s funny how these R’s get into our heart’s and we don’t want to let them go. I had an accident on my RD back in 96, like you my bike is still in the garage, in bits awaiting repair, however that’s where the similarity ends. While I’m impressed by how bike technology has moved on over the years I never felt I could use a modern bike enough to justify owning one, so I purchased an RB.
Hopefully someone will be able to help with the parts you require as it would be great to see your RC back on the road.

it is good to be back. I have received the July and October issues of R World and seeing so many of the bikes looking so well and being used makes me all the more determined to get the RC on the road: on that point can anyone refer me to someone who can undertake an engine re- build. I don’t mind where it is in the country

There’s a guy I can recommend up my neck of the woods, Norfolk that is, but the one thing that added a lot of time and money to the cost of rebuilding mine was getting the barrels off the cases. If you’re extremely lucky that won’t be an issue with yours, but if you’re like the other 99% they won’t budge for time nor money.
Is your engine apart or just showing a big hole in the cases? I couldn’t see a pic attached on your first post about it

I do not own a R yet, still looking for one, but I do have 3 1983 CB1100Fs which are all running which I have collected and re built the Engines in each one, and these Engines are the same as the R with the exception of all the special performance parts in the R
As Andy stated removing the Cylinder is a major job, one of my engines that had never been apart to the best part of 2 days to remove
If you have a hole in the crankcases the most likely culprit would be a broken con-rod, which would have also damaged the cylinder liner, piston and maybe the valves/Cylinder Head
Finding replacement Crankcases could be a problem, conrods are easy to find, and if the crank is damaged 900 ones can be used, and a cylinder liner can be replaced

Is this one of your F’s I found a picture of ? Looks to me like you’re making a very good job of building your own R. There’s something quit special about them with no fairing.

Hi Trev,hope you are keeping well, yes its one of mine, been collecting parts for a few years for this project, The tank and seat are Harris replicas from the 80’s,a 1983 1100f underneath with 1992 vfr750 forks and brakes and a new marving exhaust, only finished it in august this year, and with the rubber mounted engine and quiet exhaust nice to ride
Yes they do look nice without a fairing, the engines are too nice looking to hide, I have a RC replica fairing but decided to go naked

I was aware you had been collecting parts for a project and it looks to me like you’ve done a good job. The VFR forks and brakes quit suit the look and I expect they improve the handling? I’ve always liked shape of the Honda DOHC engine in my view it looks better than other four cylinder bikes of the time.
I have just found the time to sit and read October R world. While obviously I remember what a great time we all had on the Isle of Man its good to read the thoughts of others and I would once again like to thank AndyL for the great job and hard work he puts in to every issue.
