Been humming and harring about when to do my ‘tidy up’ of the rat… and thought with the festive break coming up, now would be as good a time as any.

With the bike still pulling like a train and not smoking or using oil etc I was planning on keeping engine work to cosmetics only, but got to thinking whilst I have got it in / out of the frame, what sort of general maintenance should I be looking at? Its done 38k; Top end rebuild? Leave it be?

    Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

i’d leave it if all is good….maybe do a comp test just to give you an idea of the state of the motor….:)

I’d give some thought to replacing the engine chains Andy. Both Cam chains and possibly the primary drive chain.

I would do some checks before you remove the engine. If all is well and no bad noises just do a basic service, check the valve clearances, adjust chains, change oil and filter.
