June 15, 2016 at 8:28 am #12895AnonymousInactiveFantastic !! Do you want my bike on the stand Glenn or do you have enough?
June 15, 2016 at 4:11 pm #12896Glenn KirkhamKeymasterHi Gareth – it would be good to have it on the stand as you are going to be there in any case… it’s an RD I think…?
June 16, 2016 at 8:38 pm #12897AnonymousInactiveYes Glenn it is an RD and it will be in race trim with most of the shiny, glassy bits taken off for Spa. Having said that the starter clutch has failed, and the LHS of the bike is in bits as I try to rebuild / replace / modify the sprag clutch. Grrrrr!
June 17, 2016 at 7:00 am #12898AnonymousInactiveHi Gareth, there is a solution for the R starter clutch problem, and that is to use a 1999-2001 Yamaha R6 5EB sprag, you will need a cb750/cb900f starter clutch hub and starter gear
As you can see from the photo the R6 sprag has around 20 teeth to grip rather than 3 rollers, and you use 6 bolts to secure it
I have been using this mod on my CB1100F Hondas (2) for 3 years now with no problems, always grips never slips
If you send me your email i will forward you a word document with full details

June 17, 2016 at 7:44 am #12899SteveBMemberKeith,
I think might be a market for you here, selling a complete modified sprag clutch ready to fit on !
Put me down for the first one please.

June 19, 2016 at 2:57 pm #12903AnonymousInactiveIt’s a well known problem of course, but we don’t pay much mind to is until the bloody starter clutch goes. In my case at the worst possible times. I’ve had two go now in the past 2 years and I’m out of spares
so will be looking at this Yamaha conversion. Seems the priciest item is the Yam Sprag itself.June 20, 2016 at 7:37 am #12906SteveBMemberSteveG. Do you have a part number for the sprag clutch and the price thanks. ?
