Hi – thanks for confirming that the bolt (12m head/ 8mm shaft diam.) is right hand thread – at least I haven’t been tightening it! I cannot remove it without the risk of it shearing. I have found that the 2 little lobes on the advance/ retard fly-weights have sheared – these locate in the slots behind the cam and that’s why the cam rotated freely. I have managed to remove the springs and remove the 2 fly-weights and fit replacements without undoing the offending bolt. But … I think the cam is now 180 degrees out and the fly-weights cannot now be removed (the old ones could be removed because the little lobes were sheared). So now I am stuck! I was wondering if I swapped the plug leads around if it would compensate?

I think its a great idea to compile a list of compatible parts. Yes, we have the parts numbers and can see the differences but are some parts with different numbers interchangible? I personally am interested in RB parts:
    – front fork parts (different valving on stanchions??)
    – front calliper parts (same callipers but different mounting brackets to accommodate bigger diameter discs – can these be CNC machined?? Different pistons??)
    – fairing bracket)s) (shit – Honda didn’t want the fairing to fall off, did they!! Is the “scaffolding” the same as CB900F Bol D’or?)

Also, I realise the clutch-cover of the CB1100F engine is different – can they be swapped? Any other external differences?

Please help if you can guys.

Thanks WoutV! (And thanks for the headlamp shell – I have bought several parts from you!). Such information is so helpful – thanks for sharing. Can the 1100F air box be modified to 1100R spec? Any chance of photos? Particularly seeking information on forks, callipers, calliper mounts and discs.

For those of us restoring CB1100Rs, knowing which parts from other models were the same would be invaluable – please share your wisdom!

Hi – I thought you may be interested to hear that that I have started the project. The trike is stripped and parts are away being blasted and painted. I bought another hybrid CB1100R for parts – not as mad as it seem as it has an 1100F engine and CB900FB front end and was priced accordingly. I have also managed to source correct RB wheels, front mudguard and GRP copy of an RB seat – both the trike and the donor bike had RC seats. The Dunlop bike will have CB900FB front end until I can locate original – but do’t tell anybody! I am going to have an interesting pile of bits left over – RB frame, tank, etc., RC seat and wheels, 1100F engine .. so I am planning a pseudo unfaired Gardner replica, perhaps for the track! I know its ambitious but if anyone has correct CB1100RB front end parts, you would make a friend and some money! Oh, and I am confused about the differences between CB900F forks, callipers and discs? Is it just the bigger diameter discs and the different calliper brackets to suit? Or are there more differences?

Thanks for the information – it matters to me. If I’m going to the trouble, I would like it right. Are you in/ near Norwich? Because I live in Woodbridge nr. Ipswich. Is Aerocoat, St Olaves near Gt Yarmouth?

Hi – sorry but could you clarify these paint codes? I want to have an RB professionally re-sprayed and would appreciate a list of all the paint codes, including frame, shocks, forks, etc.. Should the frame be stove-enameled, powder coated or just sprayed? Cheers, Phil.
