    Hi,

Ride magazine had a feature on blackbirds , buying guide etc etc……..

This bike was in that feature. At least i think it was this one unless there is another super blackbird out there in 1100R colours.
I have to say I rather like the paintwork.

    Regards,

    Nat.

    Hi Wim…………….

I have no idea, but was thinking. Is the fuel cap key the same as the ignition key ? If so can you see the number on the ignition barrel and get a key cut to fit. ? How about the tool box ? Is there a barrel number there ? Honda still do keys, I know because I tried to get a blank everywhere and they were only available from honda. I got a spare one for my RD ignition switch.
Again , I have not seen the underside of a CB fuel cap, but that may have a part number on it ( for the key ). My RD did not have a locking fuel cap. Guess you could remove yours and go for a non locking cap if it would fit. Consider draining tank and taking it off and taking the whole thing to a locksmith who should be able to open it easily. Then look for the lock number &/ or take a blank key and ask if they can cut you a new key. I’m fairly sure you can change the barrel part of the locks or perhaps one from a CB900 F may fit .
I am not sure I would want to drill the lock with a tank full of fuel vapour…………..just takes 1 spark and potential very loud bang .
I am sure you have thought of most of this , was just thinking aloud and think many options are worth exploring before butchering an original lock.

Hahaha, yes I am down south. The weather is better here and we get to ride more. Each to their own. £25 K is way too much for that bike and I hear everything said about the original 1100 R being a bit special, it was in its day designed with a specific task in mind without compromise.
Of the original 1100R whats left on the sanctuary bike ? Bodywork , frame , tank………thats about it. To all intents an purposes its no longer an 1100R , it just looks like one. Thats the key for me. My own personal opinion is doing that to a rare bike is a no no.
The concept bike will be a better all round bike, every component will be better and lets be fair a 1100R is woefully slow by todays standards. Lets not even start discussing brakes. I am an average rider and even I can pretty much ride an 1100R flat out……….part of that is because its comparatively slow to todays bikes and part of it is because its such a sweet handling bike and a testament of how Honda got it right back in the 80’s. I know its not an exact comparison, I also have a CB1300……..I just like the look of it. However its dynamically better than a 1100R in almost every respect and of course owning one is hastle free.
Also, and it may be an age thing, I cannot think of a single bike available today new that i like the look of. They all look like they have been designed by some power ranger . Again just my humble opinion. I guess thats why many of us like older bikes.
I know it wont be an out and out ” special ” but I do hope honda make it because I would buy one….as long as its not £25k.
That sanctuary bike is very pretty though………..

I haven’t got either £25,000 or a donor bike so pretty irrelevant.

Otherwise its very nice, although I prefer the replacement 1100R Honda teased us with back in 2005 I think.
I even e-mailed honds and said please build it, I will buy one.

    I really really want one………………

I think thats very nice, but for £25,000 I would want the bottom of that fairing finished a lot better than it is……………you’d think given the skill levels they have that would have been addressed.

    Hi Simon

I would send your bike to Slipstream. There guys used to do all the CB1100R’s back in the day and what they dont know isnt worth knowing. I appreciate you are a distance away and the bike is off the road now, but its probably worth you sending it down especially as they will even tune it for you. They look after my 1100R.

    Hi Steve,

That’s a new one on me , the cracks in the overflow tubes. However if that is the case a smear of chemical metal should do the trick if that’s what it is………………..
or found this on the web………………

    http://www.repairproducts.co.uk/page41.htm

I feel your pain, its so frustrating especially when you know its clearly bowl/needle/float issue and despite looking at it 100 times you still cant see the issue.

    Good luck,

    Very good point………………

I wont be buying that then. Although It would be interesting to see how they value that @ import point.
Seller of course can give you an invoice, but surely he can write whatever figure you like on that. I had heard a rumor, that irrespective of what is written on an invoice, customs will value it themselves to stop fiddlers. Still , if you paid £5000 for it cant see them seeing this as outside of the price range . As for the ” spares “, would be even more interested to see how customs value that if at all . I certainly have an interest, but given expenses to go get it, ( hire a van /fuel etc etc ) customs / registration hastle + import duty, its worth no more than £6000 to me so thats what i will offer. I am sure it will be rejected, but there is a good £3000 worth of taxes/expenses to get it here, assuming there is nothing wrong with it and it runs.
Feel free to tell me im wrong…………always good to have corroberation of one’s opinions.

    Regards,

    Nat.
